English With Crocodiles
What is it?
English with Crocodiles is a 7-day / 6-night premium English language
learning tourism program held in Darwin and Kakadu National Park in the
tropical north of Australia.
Outcome:
Small project in English on a topic suggested by the participant. Informal
oral
presentation of topic to peers on concluding the program.
Level of English:
For intermediate or advanced levels of English: individual projects can
be big or small and participants help one another.
Need:
- Learning English is more and more necessary
for overseas travel and trade, and to improve career opportunities.
- The Northern Territory outback experience
offers learners of English a stimulating context in which to work with
others to improve their language skills.
- Improving conversation skills (and writing
and reading): small groups of learners help one another build up their
projects, greatly improving their conversation skills. Project work
is also very effective in improving both written skills, and reading
skills.
- For corporate clients, individual projects
can include topics relevant to the workplace.
- Topics can be decided in advance, in
negotiation with stakeholders, or when participants arrive.
- Also for corporate clients, human resources
tools such as personal profiling prior to the tour are optional. This
knowledge can bring participants a deeper understanding of how they
interact with others in the group.
Language learning methodology:
The language learning methodology is based
on the development of small, individual projects that are suggested by
each participant. Individuals projects are developed in small-group
sessions with other participants and the facilitators. This ensures that
projects are meaningful for each person, and at each persons level,
and that participants help one another with their learning. The teacher
and the teachers aid are there to help with grammar, vocabulary,
and pronunciation where necessary, and to help with conversation and the
development of individual projects.
